About Us

Sew Happy Sewing Co – Operative was started in 2016 to address a need in our community. Many children were attending school without a formal school uniform due to economic challenges.

This co-operative was established to generate income by manufacturing school wear and branding products, to support these unemployed women and to generate income to address those social challenges. Sew Happy is 100% black, female and youth owned co-operative. They have a Level 1 BBBEE scoring.  Although this co-operative is small, they have a strong social responsibility programme, and are making a difference in their communities.

WHO WE ARE

Conville and Parkdene are just two of the communities based in George, South Africa.  These areas are filled with disillusioned young people.  There is a high rate of unemployment, and because of this there are many social challenges.

In 2016, six young women, who lived in these communities since birth, noticed that there were many children attending school without a formal school uniform due to economic challenges. They collectively decided to act on this through enterprise development by creating jobs in the manufacturing sector.

Sew Happy Primary Sewing co-operative was established to:

  1. Generate income by manufacturing school wear and branding products,
  2. To support unemployed women to generate income
  3. To address local social challenges.
  4. To provide a basic need – supplying of school uniforms

Sew Happy is 100% black, female and youth owned co-operative. They have a Level 1 BBBEE scoring.

This dynamic co-operative has secured a few SASSA tenders, provided a service to an international organisation, provides their products to many local schools in their communities, and was runner-up to the 2018 Eskom Business Awards. Sew Happy Primary Sewing Co-operative is the preferred provider for nine local schools which are sourced at their shop in a shopping mall in Central George.

Although this co-operative is small, they have a strong social responsibility programme, and are making a difference in their communities, by supporting 134 children in an After School Care Programme in Conville.

About Us

We Are a Manufacturing & Branding Company

Six young ladies came together and decided to take this challenge and create a business opportunity, so that they could at the same time, make a social difference.

In 2017 – the NDA gave the newly found organisation a grant which helped them buy much needed equipment. This helped the co – operative to produce more items. In 2016 they won tenders for SASSA. In 2017, Sew Happy could open their own retail store and provide more services.

In 2018, SEDA assisted them to participate in their first national exhibition. This enabled them to gain new markets. Later, that same year, Sew Happy won 2nd Runner – up prize at the Eskom Business Investment Competition.

The dynamic co – operative currently employs 8 people and growing from strength to strength.  Their motto is to provide quality products at affordable prices.
